ST JOSEPH'S CHURCH
WROUGHTON

Children’s Liturgy
Children’s Liturgy of the Word is offered during Sunday Mass, giving our children and young parishioners the opportunity to engage with the Gospel in a meaningful and age-appropriate way.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Each Sunday, the Church gathers to celebrate the Word and Eucharist, entering into the Paschal Mystery—the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. In this sacred assembly of the baptised, Christ is truly present, just as He promised:
“For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.” (Matthew 18:20)

At the beginning of Mass, children remain with their families for the Introductory Rites. After the opening hymn and greeting, they are invited forward with their leaders. A child is presented with the Book of the Gospels, and together they process reverently to the church hall. The children return during the Offertory to rejoin the full assembly for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a genuine act of liturgy—not catechesis or child-minding. It mirrors the structure of the Liturgy of the Word celebrated in the main assembly. The scriptures are proclaimed and reflected upon in a way that is accessible and meaningful to young hearts and minds. Through prayer, listening, and response, children are drawn into an experience of God’s presence and a deeper understanding of His Word.
Catechism Children Celebrate Corpus Christi

On the feast of Corpus Christi, our catechism children joyfully participated in a special celebration by preparing a themed display that reflected the beauty and mystery of the Eucharist. With heartfelt creativity, they presented symbols of the Body and Blood of Christ, reminding us all of the sacred gift we receive at the altar.
